When conflict is very high you should maintain distance from one another, but still display mutual respect. The following guidelines will help you parallel parent successfully:
- Each of you has total responsibility for parenting when the child is in your care.
- You do not have to check with the other parent in making daily decisions.
- You do not schedule any activity or appointment during the other parent’s time.
- Exchanges of the children take place peacefully, with little or no verbal exchange.
- You maintain a businesslike manner at all times.
- You may need to have a Parenting Coordinator help you make decision.
- You may need to ask the Court for help at times.
